Product Shortages Could Leave Many Empty Handed This Holiday Season

We’ve made our way into another trading month this Friday and investors all over the globe are celebrating as this first day of October has seen the markets bursting out of their slump and heading upwards with the DOW up around 400 points in the latter half of the day.

Don’t be too eager to blow those profits just yet though as some economic analysts are suggesting you start your holiday shopping now, warning that a seasonal shortage of consumer goods around the upcoming holiday season is coming our way and could make this shopping season much more stressful than it already is.

Join us today as we take a look at this developing problem and how it could impact you and your family in the months ahead.

‘Tis the Season…

Often referred to as the happiest time of the year, the holiday season is just around the corner. And despite the annual pleasantries that come to many of us each December, this time of year also brings out anxiety in some as last-minute shoppers rush out to check off items on their loved one’s gift wish lists.

That holiday shopping tradition may need to start a bit earlier this year, however, as some are warning that a shortage on high demand items like electronics, toys and clothing may leave some with empty hands this year.

Talking with Fox News, Freightwaves founder and CEO Craig Fuller recently spoke of this year’s holiday season and the challenges that may come along with it as the global economy faces a supply chain crisis.

According to Fuller, he’s recommending that people, “… go ahead and buy those hard-to-get items now versus waiting until the holidays.”

When discussing the weakest supply sectors this holiday season, Fuller noted that he thought toys would be the hardest to come across because, “… they’re manufactured in Vietnam and China,” and that the heaviest risks are on the “… Pacific trades plan into the West Coast ports. That’s where the most substantial risks are in terms of sourcing supply.”

… And we must not forget the issues arising from the continued spread of the Covid-19 pandemic across the globe as it continues to hold up the cargo and shipping industries.

According to Fuller there are still several ports in China that have Covid-19 positive workers who, when detected, are causing their terminals to be shut down for a quarantine process, leaving many around the globe waiting for these shipments much longer than in years past.

The Wrap Up… (Pun Intended)

It appears the shortage this season will be on more than toilet paper.

… And as competitive shopping is around the corner — with the coming of Black Friday and the overall holiday season — there’s no telling what coveted items will be available for families to unwrap this December and which ones will be left in the dust.

… Or maybe this is a chance for a materialistic society to learn a valuable lesson this year. With items being picked over and unavailable to fill our houses to the brim with presents, maybe the true meaning of the day will shine through.

After all, to quote Dr. Seuss, “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!
