Markets are in the GREEN and hopes are high this Monday morning as we kick off yet another trading week… A great way to start off the week ahead which will be a short one on Wall Street with markets closing this Thursday in celebration of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.
With the abbreviated week ahead in store, let’s take a quick look at what IS expected to head our way in the days ahead including details on the latest release of expected earnings data, details on the coming Black Friday “holiday” and how one airline is making their way through the holiday rush, despite many hurdles.
The Holiday Week in Review…
- Though the week ahead is shortened due to Thursday’s Thanksgiving celebration in the U.S., the first half of the week is expected to be absolutely full of earnings data from big names in tech and retail like Urban Outfitters, Zoom Video Communications, American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Best Buy, Dicks Sporting Goods, Dell Technologies, HP Inc., Nordstrom and many more!
- Also joining the list of companies releasing earnings data this week is John Deere, which is expected to wrap up this week of earnings after the end of a month-long strike by the company’s union employees.
- Following Thursday’s U.S. observation of the Thanksgiving holiday, retailers will start their annual Black Friday shopping day, famous for being the busiest shopping day of the year. With supply shortages limiting the amount of stock each store can supply to the ravenous crowds this year, many are expecting this Black Friday to be a bit of a letdown when compared to previous years. This is not only for buyers but for sellers as well who rely heavily on the sales of this heavily promoted event to boost their 4th quarter earings… A boost much needed at this time as many of these companies continue to struggle to return to pre-pandemic economic health.
- Another industry expected to fight their way through the holiday rush this week is the airline industry who, like so many industries, has recently been experiencing staff shortages. A problem that could cause major issues for the airlines during, this, one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. To help combat this concern, many airlines like American Airlines are giving extra incentives to employees simply for showing up! Flight attendants for the company who work over the course of the next two months with limited to no absences will be able to earn anywhere between 150% to 300% in bonuses in their holiday paychecks! An incentive that will certainly entice many on the payroll to clock in on time over the two months ahead…
